TAS26 Preview: China’s live-event market enters a new phase

At #TAS26, Greg Turner, Founder & Managing Director at High Performance Venue Management, will examine what Guangzhou and Nansha’s live-event reforms could mean for international promoters, venue operators and ticketing platforms.

China has long offered enormous audience potential, but converting that potential into commercially workable live events has required patience, local knowledge and an ability to work across government, venue and event ecosystems. Greg’s perspective is grounded in that reality. Over more than two decades in China, he has worked across venue development and operations, event management, ticketing, sponsorship and government relations.

At #TAS26, he will focus on the signs of liberalisation emerging in Guangzhou and Nansha: faster approval pathways, direct incentives for qualifying events and significant new venue capacity in the Greater Bay Area. The discussion will look beyond the headline numbers to ask whether Nansha can turn policy support and major new infrastructure into repeat demand, sustained utilisation and lasting confidence for international operators.

That is the thinking behind Greg’s full feature on TheTicketingBusiness.com, which examines Nansha’s emerging proposition and what international promoters can take from it. If you want to understand the opportunity before hearing the conversation in Hong Kong, read the full analysis here.

Greg Turner

Founder & Managing Director, High Performance Venue Management

Greg is the only foreigner to have run three major venues in China. His most notable achievement came with the Li Ka Shing Foundation, where he was entrusted to guide the US$110 million STU Sports Park from concept to reality, first serving as the owner’s representative through construction before leading the venue’s operational launch.

That end-to-end experience, combined with his understanding of China’s local policy and commercial landscape, gives him a rare view of how venues, governments and event businesses need to work together to build sustainable demand.

Join Greg Turner, together with ticketing, eCommerce and live entertainment leaders from across the region, at TheTicketingBusiness ASIA 2026 in Hong Kong, 13–15 October 2026.
